When we started building out the kitchen garden in the backyard, we only installed 3 DIY cedar square raised beds. Over time, to add more growing space for the garden, we added a few more beds in different materials and shape. Our first expansion project was quite fun playing with galvanized steel tubs/stock tanks we found at Tractor Supply. There are several shapes and sizes to choose from, but to fit our current garden, we went with the 40 gal. oval 4ft x 2ft x 1ft stock tanks. These stock tanks are of amazing quality and very well built. Our current cedar wood beds are in pecan finish, so we decided to have some fun with spray paint and refinished the outer walls of these steel tubs with Rust-Oleum Stops Rust spray paint in Hammered Copper finish. Final touch was drilling a few draining holes and adding heavy duty caster wheels to the bottom of these tubs. The caster wheels will allow us to move these around easily anytime even when they are filled with heavy soil later. Love how the finished products turned out. These steel tubs are now beautiful additions to our backyard raised bed garden. Enjoy a few pictures of this fun DIY project below!
